Gambia’s former President Yahya Jammeh ordered a witch hunt campaign in 2009 that targeted individuals in different communities. He claimed his aunt had been killed by a ‘witch’. The campaigns infringed on individual rights and freedoms and violated the dignity of victims, who, along with their families endured mental, physical and psychological trauma and significant economic losses. Some victims – men and women, were sexually assaulted; women were raped. Many victims died. In this documentary, victims and survivors talk of their encounters, the stigma they face, healing, reconciliation and their quest for justice.
